London to Monaco
A lorry here is a permit problem, a height restriction and a parking negotiation. A van is not.
Two square kilometres built vertically into a hillside, with underground car parks, height barriers, restricted streets and building access rules enforced properly. Almost everything that makes Monaco difficult for a removals lorry makes it straightforward for a van.
Why a van
The constraint in Monaco is not distance, it is dimensions. Underground car parks have height barriers, many streets have vehicle restrictions, and buildings have their own access and lift rules. A van clears the barriers and fits the streets; an articulated lorry needs permissions, a plan and frequently a transfer at the edge of the principality.
The route
Overland through France and down the Rhône corridor to the Côte d'Azur, then into the principality on ordinary roads. The journey is long and unremarkable; the last kilometre is the interesting part.
Who moves on this route
- People relocating for work with an apartment's worth of possessions.
- Owners furnishing or refurnishing an apartment rather than moving a whole household.
- Households sending specific pieces — art, furniture, a wine collection — rather than everything.
- People moving out of Monaco to the UK, where the same access constraints apply in reverse.

Paperwork
Who holds which document
Monaco applies EU customs arrangements through its relationship with France, so a household move from the UK follows the same import formalities as a move to France. You supply the documents and make the declarations, and their accuracy is legally yours. This is not advice and the position changes.
Arriving, and the building's own rules
Buildings in Monaco manage access properly. Expect a service lift with a booking, a concierge who needs notice, a height barrier on the car park entrance and a requirement for insurance documentation. All of it is reasonable and all of it has a lead time.
The single most useful thing you can send us is the car park height restriction at the destination, in metres, taken from the sign rather than estimated. It decides the vehicle before anything else does.
Where a building will not permit vehicle access at all, the delivery becomes a carry from the nearest permitted point. That is ordinary here and it needs to be in the plan rather than discovered.

Questions about moving to Monaco
- Why is a van better than a lorry here?
- Height barriers, restricted streets and building access rules. A van clears the barriers and fits the streets; a lorry needs permissions and frequently a transfer at the edge of the principality.
- What do you need to know about my building?
- The car park height restriction from the sign, whether there is a service lift and whether it must be booked, and who to send insurance documents to. Those three cover almost everything.
- Can you deliver to an address in Beausoleil instead?
- Yes, and plenty of people find that simpler. It is immediately above the border on the French side with ordinary road access.
- Do you handle the customs paperwork?
- We prepare the transport documentation and the inventory. You supply the supporting documents and make the declarations, and none of what we tell you is legal or customs advice.
Tell us what it is and where it is
If it is not a van job we will say so, and say what to book instead.
Both addresses, what the item is, what floor each end is on, and a photograph of the biggest thing. That is enough for a straight answer and a written price.
